Now, let’s get started with this Core Game Engine review!
What Is Spaceport Tycoon About?
In Spaceport Tycoon, four players compete for resources as they try to upgrade their base and send their profits back to Earth.
The first player to build their base, gather all the parts they need for a spaceship, and launch their ship is the winner.
Spaceport Tycoon Controls
In Starport Tycoon you run around and shoot using the regular WASD controls and you mouse.
The game starts with 4 unclaimed base foundations- run through the green portal to claim the base location.
Each base is connected to a mining rig that increases your cash flow over time.
To collect the banked money, just step on and off the green pad. Each time you do this, you collect the amount shown on the display.
You can increase the output of your mine by upgrading your mining rig parts using the money you generate through mining, collecting power-ups, and collecting bounties on your competing players.
Use your cash to upgrade your base and purchase weapons.
Purchase walls, windows, a MedBay, mining upgrades, and a launchpad.
The Spaceport Tycoon Map
The game takes place in a large crater on the moon. The landscape is littered with rocks, ship wreckage, cash pods, and bounce platforms.
In addition to competing with other players for resources, there are hazards on the map as well.
Giant UFOs use their tractor beams to slurp up the ship components you need to build your ship.
The UFOs are hazardous by themselves, but they have smaller drone units that fly around and drop grenades on your head if you come too close.
What They Did Right
Easy and fun to play.
Chase down the other players or hide safely in your base.
Fun competition to be the first to complete their base.
What Could Be Improved
The ship wreckage falls in a certain order so if you missed your final piece the first time, you have to wait for it to cycle through again. This might be better than random pieces falling, as it introduces a scarce resource.
Is Spaceport Tycoon Any Good?
Spaceport Tycoon is pretty fun to play with friends and takes about an hour and a half to complete.
